This game interface requires a FOSSIL driver to run properly. A FOSSIL
driver allows for incompatible systems and UARTs to communicate with a program
on a standardized level, thus making a program compatible on more systems.
I have included BNU 1.70 Fossil driver in the PKSFX package. The Series-3
BATch file loads this FOSSIL driver automatically and unloads it upon exit,
so you shouldn't have to worry about loading it yourself.
On Startup, if you use /E or E as an option on the command line to RUNME.BAT
or SERIES-3.EXE, Series-3 will force 43 or 50 line mode depending on whether
you have an EGA or VGA monitor. Otherwise, the system will use the CURRENT
display mode.
When you enter Galactic Empire, I suggest using Alt-F to download your ship
information and set your comm channels to whatever they're set to on the
console. The download will determine your ship type and the maximum warp
factor that ship is capable of.
The main point behind Series-3 is that you become part of the system. If
you use all or most of the features of this program, you're best off. The
system was designed to be an extension of the game, so it is best that all
the features (especially navigation) be utilitized.
I will be uploading an in-depth documentation on the system shorty. In the
mean-time, just remember this... DON'T PANIC. Series-3 was designed to
remove some of the game pressure from you. You will, though, have to get
used to and familiar with using the navigation system since the nav is what
ties every scan and battle feature in with eachother.
Peace Out
-Tom
